When you shop for traditional Christmas cards, most of them contain the same greeting. You can make your greeting personal when you send Christmas ecards.
Christmas ecards are fast overtaking the business of buying and sending traditional paper Christmas cards. When you shop for a card in a store, you find that the majority of them have the same picture or graphic on the front and a very generic message inside. Why not send something different this year by looking at what the free ecard sites have to offer?
With the millions of people using electronic mail, you know that your card will be received in plenty of time for the holiday season. In addition, it saves you a lot of money in the cost of buying the cards and the stamps you need to mail them. In fact, once you start using digital greeting cards, you will likely send Christmas cards to everyone you know.
Animated Christmas ecards (http://www.care2.com/ecards/) are a wonderful way to share the joy and beauty of the Christmas season by sending your wishes to those near and far. It is far easier to manage your list of email addresses on your computer than it is to keep a file of all your friend’s actual addresses, especially if they move often. Their email address stays the same. When you visit a site offering Christmas ecards, once you make your choice, all you have to do is include the email address of the recipient and click send.
You can choose from a selection of Christmas ecards with readymade messages. However, a better way of expressing yourself at this special time of the year is to personalize the message with something that have a special meaning for both you and the person to whom you are sending the greeting. There are ecards available for just about any recipient and you can choose sentimental and inspiration graphics, ones suited just for Christmas or ones that are really funny.
If you are new to sending ecards at Christmas, you may have the idea that this is a really impersonal way of sending a greeting or that the person may think you couldn’t be bothered with taking the time to shop for a card. Nothing could be further from the truth with the wide selection of ecards that are available online.
There are cards for children, grandchildren, parents and parents-in-law, just as there are cards for husband and wife, lovers and friends. If there is one special person in your life to whom you plan to pop the question, you can even do so in the message of Christmas ecards (http://www.care2.com/send/catxmas1.html) and perhaps next year this person will be your wife.
A friend who lives far away will really know that you are thinking of him/her and make their Christmas special when they receive an ecard from you. Sending Christmas greetings across the miles is far easier than sending a card to another country and not knowing whether or not it will ever arrive.
You receive a notification that the recipient has read the ecard and there is a pretty good chance you will get a thank you message from this person as well. This is an excellent way to keep in touch when you are too far apart to visit.
Twinkling lights on a Christmas tree, snow lightly falling or the voice of a talking reindeer are just a few of the ways in which you can animate your Christmas ecard. The only disadvantage is that the ecard will only be available on the computer and the recipient will not be able to display the beautiful card you send.

Ever thought of moving to Alaska? This thought crosses the minds of many Americans. After all it’s beautiful and one heck of an adventurous escape. If you are sick of your boss and traffic and smog the notion can seem very appealing. But it’s not as simple as just picking up and moving there. Before they let you in, there are certain requirements. Lets examine them.
First off, you must be a little touched in some manner or another. That is to say, it cannot be obvious that your mental health is 100% normal. They are not interested in having mainstream normal people move up there and join them. That would start wrecking the place. If you have any unusual obsessions or hobbies that make your friends think you are a little weird, be sure to put that on your resident application.
How’s your tolerance to cold weather? I’m not talking up-state New York in January weather. I’m talking about taking a nap in your meat freezer kind of cold. It’s deadly up there in the winter, even in the southern part of the state. If you don’t relish being trapped inside your house for a month at a time due to weather you might want to think twice about it.
Do you like good beer? Not the fizzy yellow crap made from 20-30% rice or corn they push on us in mainstream America. Real hand-crafted ales. Do you love them more than life itself? If you can’t say you are a craft beer enthusiast they don’t want you up there.
How much meat do you eat? Of that, how much of it was killed by either you or a close neighbor? The percentages both should be high if you want your resident application to be seriously considered. (If you are a vegetarian you should stop reading this article right now and do something about your protein deficiency.)
How many days a year do you call in sick to go fishing? This is critical. If you don’t have a picture of you next to a fish bigger than you in your wallet this is definitely a black mark against you. You might be able to overcome this if you own over $10,000 worth of fishing tackle and you missed work at least 60 days in the last year.
What about extreme sports? Have you ever zip-lined into a glacier full of polar bears caring only a toothpick for survival? How often do you go hang-gliding and kite surfing in the same day? Do you ever get the urge to serenade grizzly bears with a kazoo and a ukulele? If you can’t enthusiastically answer these questions while breaking out some photos you probably aren’t Alaska resident material.
There is one other way in. Are you running away from something or somebody? Fugitives from society are welcome up north. It helps if you are wanted in at least three other states. In fact if you have legally changed your name more than once that will usually be enough for Alaskans to welcome you with open arms. Just don’t ask any of your new neighbors what their name is.

Traditions of Thanksgiving in Canada
Like all the harvest festivals throughout history, the overt celebration of gratefulness of the Earth’s bounteousness is through a fabulous feast! Gathering up with the family for a day of enjoyment and fellowship is easier in Canada than in many other countries. While the official Thanksgiving Day is on Monday, Canadians usually celebrate it during the entire three-day weekend.
After the main meal, it is traditional to kick back and relax while watching the featured “Thanksgiving Day Classic” football game. Not to be confused with the American version of football, the Canadian Football League offers a doubleheader schedule of games for the Thanksgiving Day celebration.
Besides the indoor activities or the family dinner, the weekend of Thanksgiving is traditionally the occasion for a last big outdoor extravaganza. Either participating or watching the numerous Thanksgiving Day parades that are such an entire part of the holiday will get one out of the house and into the end of the summer air. The Thanksgiving weekend is also traditional for taking that last outdoor getaway before winter sets in and is a perfect time for hiking, fishing or simply enjoying the outstanding autumn colors.
While the Thanksgiving Day celebration is a secular event, those with a religious mind have their own Thanksgiving traditions that they partake of in their churches. With the old European harvest festivals in mind, most churches are decorated with the traditional cornucopias, wheat sheaves, pumpkins, gourds and corn ears. There are particular scriptural texts and hymns that are emphasized at this time of the year to celebrate the harvest and their gratefulness to their God for providing for them.
Traditions of Thanksgiving in the United States
While Thanksgiving is celebrated yearly in the United States since 1863, it has been often bounced around and given different reasons for celebration. By the mid-20th century it had been firmly placed at the end of November and made a Federal Holiday.
Even though it is a secular holiday, since the beginning of the nation has a religious overtone. Though set aside as a day to thank God for the bounty of the Earth, this is not required.
Although not the first Thanksgiving event in the history of the United States, the “official” point of origin is taken from the Plymouth Colony of Massachusetts. Therefore the traditional decorations include Pilgrims, pumpkins, Indians and turkeys. In honor of the harvest, corn stalks, ears, cornucopias and gourds also find their way into Thanksgiving Day displays. Plays and pageants are often performed with this theme in both schools and religious institutions.
Alongside the omnipresent turkey are prepared additional Native American foods such as mashed and sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, corn, and cranberry sauce. It is still proper to offer a prayer at the beginning of the meal, whether to a God or general good fortune. Many organizations take this time to put together food drives for donating Thanksgiving meals to the poor and needy.
The Thanksgiving Day parades are the biggest and most popular of the year, rivaling and generally even beating out the Christmas parades.
American Football is also a part of the Thanksgiving celebration. Both major leagues hold special game events on Thanksgiving Day and several of the teams always play on this day. In schools, it is the end of the football season and the games played near the Thanksgiving Day holiday are traditionally scheduled as longstanding Rivalry Matches between schools.
Another of the great Thanksgiving traditions actually takes place on the day after. Called “Black Friday”, it is the official beginning of the Christmas shopping season and retail stores often start it off with big sales and special shopping events.
Whether in Canada or in the United States, religious or secular, it is a great excuse to celebrate and appreciate the things we have!

History of the Christmas Stocking:
The tradition of the Christmas stocking seems to have originated in around the third century and involves the Bishop of Myra who became known as Saint Nicholas. The legend goes that there was a righteous and honorable man whose wife had died, leaving him to care for their three daughters. The tradition in that country at the time was that a daughter had to have a dowry to be able to get married, as this man was poor he felt bad thinking his daughters would never be able to marry. One day this information came to the attention of Nicholas the Bishop of Myra, so late one night he went to the man’s cottage. Looking in the window he saw that the daughters had washed cloths and hung them around the fireplace to dry, noticing their stockings hanging with the rest of their clothes he took out three small bags of gold and carefully tossed them through the open window into the stockings. The next morning as the daughters were gathering their clothes they found the bags of gold, now they had money for a dowry! Of course each girl married well and lived happily ever after. As this legend grew more people began to leave stockings or small sacks hanging around the fire place in hopes that Saint Nicholas would leave them something as well.
A little further north in Holland, children used to set out their wooden clogs with straw in them, Father Christmas would feed the straw to his reindeer and leave a treat or small gift in the clog for the child. Italian children had a similar tradition of leaving their shoes out by the door so that Papa Noel would leave a little treat or something in them. In France the children left their shoes indoors by the fireplace and would then find treats or small gifts in them. In Puerto Rico the children would use small boxes, where they would put flowers and other greenery to be left for the three Wise Men or the three Kings.
Christmas Stockings in America:
As with any legend there are several variations. But the most likely way that hanging stockings became an American tradition was from all the different immigrants’ coming to America and bringing their own traditions with them and then being in close proximity to each other the traditions began to merge and alter into what we have today. Another person that helped the tradition of hanging stockings by the fireplace was Clement Moore and his most famous of poems A Visit from St. Nicholas, which today is called The Night before Christmas. And as anyone who has read the poem would know, it says, the stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. So a combination of different traditions and legends and famous poets gave birth to an American tradition. And today the Christmas stocking is an essential part in the celebration of Christmas in America. Although the practice of using everyday wearable socks has given way to specialty Christmas stockings. Today there is a wide selection of Christmas stockings for everyone and even a selection for pets.
